HBO Max's hit show starring Zendaya returns on January 9th, and this is what we think needs to be resolved.
The second season of HBO's "euphoria" is right around the corner. We can't think of a better way to start the new year than with more chaos, drama, and tangled storylines that hopefully answer the questions we were left with from season one. Is Nate Jacobs in love with Jules? Is Maddy done with him? Are Jules and Rue getting back together? These and more have been circulating since the release of the trailer.
Another big question is if the show will maintain its character storylines per episode. If it does, this makes us wonder which characters will get the spotlight in the season. Our guess? We hope to see Lexi Howard (Maude Apatow), Cal Jacobs (Eric Dane), and Ethan (Austin Abrams) explore their own background stories, as well as repeats from the first season that dig deeper into characters we love.
While we have to wait to get actual answers, here are some questions you should be thinking about as we wait for the first episode to drop.
Is Nate going to face consequences for all the chaos he's created?
It was no shock that Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi) was able to leave the first season unscathed. For his last appearance, he gets into an argument with his dad (Dane) that leaves him banging his head on the floor, which confirmed our suspicions that Nate is unhinged. Some of his worst crimes included abusing Maddy (Alexa Demie), blackmailing and lying to Jules, and calling the cops on Fez.
Will Kat be able to develop a relationship with Ethan?
This is not a want, but a need! Kat's (Barbie Ferreira) storyline was widely developed during the first season, but we hope to see more for the new season. On the final episode, Ethan and her find some common ground and confirm their feelings to each other. Will their relationship survive the second season?
What's the deal with Nate's older brother?
I bet this isn't on everyone's minds, but his appearance, although short, could mean that he will play a larger role in either his brother or dad's storyline. I don't think he will get an episode, but there's a chance that we will learn more about him.
What happened with Rue?
The final scene of the first season is cryptic to say the least. It's a metaphorical, hazy dream-like set up where Rue (Zendaya) sways through her house in a disoriented state. It ends with her falling from a pile of anonymous people, which led fans to believe she'd died. Clearly, she didn't. But we still hope we get a clear answer about that ending.
Is Maddy done with Nate for good?
Towards the final episodes, Maddy steers clear from Nate. She begins to recognize that he's not the best influence in her, and that he needs to sort his stuff out before she considers getting back to him. However, they share a final dance where she seems to given in to their past. While nothing is confirmed, the new trailer hints at a possible relationship between Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) and Nate. If true, this will definitely create drama between the two friends.
Is Lexi in love with Rue?
Lexi (Maude Apatow) is a character that deserves an episode, and hopefully, the producers think so too. During the first season, Lexi blends in the background. It's not her fault, though. It's important to remember that we are experiencing the show from Rue's eyes, and when Jules arrives in town, she's the only one that matters to her. This pushes Lexi to the side, but I believe that season two will reveal her presence and role during the events of the first season were not as quiet as we believed.
What is Cal Jacobs' up to now?
I was quite surprise to see a glimpse of Nate's dad in the second season trailer. He appears to be driving a high-speed car with bandages wrapped around his head, which is just utterly confusing. Will Nate confront him about his secret? Will Cal and Jules cross paths again? As we wait to find out which characters will get episodes this season, I wouldn't be surprised if there's one on Cal Jacobs (Eric Dane).
