While quickly becoming one of the most popular names in Nashville, Sophia Scott's latest single "One of These Days" proves she's just getting started.
We gotta say, your new song got us in our feels! What inspired “One of These Days” and what was the process of bringing it to life?
This song is incredibly personal and came from a very vulnerable place. I actually wrote it almost four years ago, but I remember like it was yesterday. It was the first time (musically) that I had ever opened up about my parents splitting up and it was as if I released a bit of childhood trauma straight onto the pages that day. As I was writing it, the whole process really turned into a therapy session for me and the other two writers. Recounting different moments of heartache in my life and realizing that it was in those moments that I grew the most. The song is really about hope and finding strength.
Your music blends a unique combination of pop and country. How would you define your sound?
I often describe my sound as Southern Pop. I grew up listening to a lot of R&B and always wanted to imitate the vocal power and runs of soul singers. On the other hand, I fell deeply in love with country lyrics and storytelling. I could sit for hours dissecting the brilliance of really great Country songwriting. Between those two inspirations, I unlocked my own version of Pop/Country/Soul.
Where and when are you most creative? Is it a particular place, time, or a state-of-mind?
I don’t know if this is for better or for worse, but usually it’s at my highest highs and lowest lows that creativity really sparks. It’s those extra emotional moments where the light bulb of inspiration comes on. It’s also often when I am driving and thinking hard about something, or just as I am falling asleep that ideas will come to me.
You were a guest star in the Jonas Brothers’ “Remember This” tour. What was that experience like?
Incredible. Such a rush. So much fun and just everything I want for the future.
We heard you have an exciting project that’s soon to be announced! Is there anything you can share with us about it?
Yes ;) so incredibly excited for this. I will tell you that it is deeply personal and a rollercoaster of emotions. I think there will be a little something for everyone depending on what you might be going through in life, and that’s favorite part about the project.
