Here's everything you need to know about the 2022 theme for the MET Gala hosted by Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Regina King and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
This year's theme for the MET Gala is an ode to American contributions to fashion.
“The stories really reflect the evolution of American style, but they also explore the work of individual tailors, dress-makers, and designers,” Andrew Bolton, the head curator at the MET's Costume Institute, revealed in an interview with Vogue ahead of the gala.
“What’s exciting for me is that some of the names will be very familiar to students of fashion, like Charles James, Halston, and Oscar de la Renta, but a lot of the other names really have been forgotten, overlooked, or relegated into the footnotes of fashion history. So one of the main intentions of the exhibition is to spotlight the talents and contributions of these individuals, and many of them are women,” Bolton also said.
One of the biggest, if not the biggest, aspects of the gala is the fashion. While most celebrities tend to do their own thing, the theme does set a base for what it's appropriate to wear. For this edition, you can expect celebrities like Kendall Jenner, Emma Chamberlain, and Jennifer Lopez to embrace an extravagant approach to the theme. Imagine the concepts of gowns, corsets, and ensembles from the Netflix series, Bridgerton, but approached through a modern lens. It's exciting to imagine what designers from houses like Balenciaga, Ralph Lauren, and Gucci have planned for the celebrities they're dressing.
As always, the MET Gala has four hosts chosen by none other than Anna Wintour. This year, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Regina King, and Lin-Manuel Miranda are the hosts of the gala.
