Fashion's biggest night is here, and this is how you can be a part of it through Vogue's official livestream even if you're not in New York City.
The 2023 Met Gala is finally here! Vogue is stepping up to the plate once again for the third year in a row and hosting the official Met Gala red carpet livestream. The inside scoop on one of the most highly anticipated and star-studded events of the year is coming your way tonight, on Monday, May 1st.
The one and only La La Anthony is back to host the livestream, along with Derek Blasberg along with Chloe Fineman, a cast member from NBC's Saturday Night Live. Emma Chamberlain, the internet sensation, will also be back as Vogue's special correspondent.
This year's Met Gala is all about honoring the legacy of the late Karl Lagerfeld. You better believe it's going to be one heck of a fashion party, considering the dress code is "In honor of Karl…" Keep reading to find out how to watch it and everything else you need to know.
Where to watch?
You can watch the whole carpet unfold on a Vogue livestream. If you’re in New York City, you can also join people across the street from the MET, on Fifth Avenue or even further east on Madison Avenue. Some celebrities in the past have greeted fans on the street, and you might get a glimpse of celebrities as they prepare for their turn to walk the carpet.
When does the Met Gala start?
The 2023 Met Gala livestream is starting tonight at 6:30 p.m. EST, and if you need a little nudge to remember, you can sign up to get an alert as soon as the livestream kicks off. Plus, if you subscribe to Vogue's daily newsletter, you'll get access to livestream updates straight from the red carpet, along with the top stories of the night.
What is the theme this year?
The 2023 Met Gala is all about celebrating the opening of The Costume Institute's new spring exhibition called "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty." The exhibition will be held at The Metropolitan Museum of Art from May 5 to July 16, and it pays homage to Lagerfeld's remarkable contributions to the fashion industry. This annual event is crucial to the Costume Institute, as it serves as their primary source of funding for exhibitions, publications, acquisitions, operations, and capital improvements.
According to Andrew Bolton, the Costume Institute's Wendy Yu Curator in Charge, the exhibition won't be a traditional retrospective. As he told Vogue back in September, "One thing I knew for certain is that we could not do a traditional retrospective. For one thing, I think Karl would have hated that. Even though one of his facets was that he was a historicist, and he would revisit themes in his work, he was always looking to the future in his own work—he hated looking back at the past." It's going to be a fantastic exhibit, so make sure you check it out!
Who are the co-chairs of this year's Met Gala?
The 2023 Met Gala’s co-chairs for 2023 are Penélope Cruz, Roger Federer, Michaela Coel, Dua Lipa, and of course, Anna Wintour.
