The Importance of Taking a Moment

Why it's ok to do absolutely nothing once in a while.

“What are your plans after graduation?”
“Did you get started on that project yet?”
“Seeing anyone right now?”

It’s getting asked questions like these. It’s scrolling through endless emails on a daily basis. It’s seeing my classmates post about their accomplishments on LinkedIn, while I have no idea what I'm doing with my life.

It’s feeling like I’m running out of time, and not knowing how to fix it.

At some point in our lives, we all feel this way. Like everyone except you has it all figured out (they don’t), and you’re so far behind you don’t even know where to start (you’re not).

Life can be fucking stressful.

Between school, jobs, relationships, and the typical shit we deal with on a daily basis, it can feel like you need to be productive every. single. second.

Not to sound like a freshman philosophy major trying to seem ~deep~ but

We live in a society...

that values work on a 24/7 basis. But sometimes all of us need to take a step back, sit down, and take a goddam break.

After a long winter, spring has finally arrived, and it’s the perfect time to make a change. It’s time to stop feeling like we need to be ‘on’ every second, and instead, take the time we need to relax.

Maybe you’re like me,

and you’re about to graduate school with literally no idea what to do with your life. You’re constantly seeing people post about their exciting job offers, while you’re feeling like a complete failure for not having a plan.

Or maybe you’re someone who’s in a long term relationship,

but just isn’t feeling it anymore. You’ve been together with them for so long, you can’t even remember what things were like before. You’re burnt out, and needing a change, but feeling too guilty to break away.

Maybe you’re someone who's just over it.

You feel like you never have a quiet moment anymore. Like there’s always some due date or responsibility keeping you from what you really want out of life.

If you relate to any of these, or even if you don't, remember:

It's ok to take a break.

Sometimes life is just too much to handle. Every now and then, we all need some R&R. Even when it seems like everyone around you has it together, we're all just trying to figure it out as we go along.

Next time you're feeling stressed, remind yourself:

Sometimes, the best thing you can do for yourself is sit back and do nothing at all.
