Keith Madden is the costume designer for the iconic adaptation of Casey McQuiston's best-selling novel, Red, White and Royal Blue.
Amazon's latest film "Red, White, and Royal Blue" is an iconic queer romance between the son of the President of the United States and the Prince of England. The adaptation of Casey McQuiston's best-selling novel features stunning scenery and, as we expected, stylish and unique costumes. Keith Madden is the film's costume designer. He has also worked in other projects like Netflix's Obssession, The Woman in Black, and The Good Liar.
We were so excited to see Casey McQuiston's characters come to life in the screen, and the fashion in the movie certainly played a big part in that magic.
Taylor Zhakar-Perez plays Alex, the son of the President of the United States, who is a fashion-forward character known to experiment with different looks. In the film, Alex is often seen wearing suits in bold colors, such as red and blue. He also wears a variety of accessories, such as bow ties, pocket squares, and cufflinks. In contrast to Henry, his suits rarely have a tie. But his everyday style definitely aligns with a modern and casual but dressier vibe. Some brands we envision him wearing are Club Monaco and Ralph Lauren for his formal appearances, but Bode, Jacquemus or Boss for social events.
Alex's style is both modern and youthful, but it also reflects his confidence and his role as the son of the President of the United States.
Prince Henry of Wales
Nicholas Galitzine plays Prince Henry of Wales, who is a more traditional character who prefers classic suits and ties. However, it's clear that Madden still wanted to give Prince Henry's costumes a modern twist. In the film, Prince Henry is often seen wearing suits in light colors, such as white and gray. He also wears a variety of accessories, such as pocket watches and cufflinks. But in contrast to Alex, he wears a tie with his suits. Some brands that I'd envision Henry wearing are the more polished Ralph Lauren pieces, and other designers such as Thom Browne or Dior.
It's nice to see Henry's fashion change as his relationship with Alex evolves. When the two hang out, he is less concern with keeping a tidy and clean look, and even wears more casual outfits.
