Caring for Ourselves with Affirmations

Speak it into existence and your mind will listen.

Every year, around the same time- my insecurities flood out.

One day I wanna throw on a crop top and shorts and then the next, cover every square inch of skin on my body.

I would say I’m a relatively confident person now at 19 years old, but it’s been a journey. And just because I’m more confident now doesn’t mean I’m confident all the time.

One thing I strongly believe is this: affirmations have changed my perception of myself.

No intense workout, 20 lb. slim down, or late-night make-out sesh has ever made me feel more self-assured and confident than me repeating my daily affirmations.

It’s an indescribable feeling that I hope everyone can get the chance to experience one day.

When my mind starts to pick at something about myself, I say,

Everything I am looking for I can find within me.
I’m not perfect and that’s okay.

When I walk past the mirror one too many times, I say,

I choose to be happy and love myself today.
I am grateful for the body that keeps me alive everyday.

Ok, now go back and reread those affirmations to yourself.

How do you feel?

  1. Self-aware

  2. Calm

  3. Skeptical

All of the above is perfectly okay because guess what? Creating a good relationship with your mind takes time.

Here are a few more affirmations you can practice if you’re up to trying again.

We need to talk about ourselves the same way others talk about us.

“You look stunning today!” - I look stunning today.

“You’re the strongest person I know.” - I’m the strongest person I know.

This is us caring for our minds. Just like our bodies, our minds need to be cared for in a healthy way too.
